FIRST GLIMPSE OF THE VOLKSWAGEN MOBILE CHARGING ROBOT

With the first long-range vehicles from Volkswagen arriving early this year, charging stations have become a hot topic. While there are currently various options for EV charging, Volkswagen has given us a preview of what the future of charging may look like.

The current options for charging include DC fast chargers which will power the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 to 80% in only 38 minutes. Level 2 charging stations can be easily installed at home and will fully charge the ID.4 overnight. Even with the existing charging options, Volkswagen seeks to expand the charging infrastructure.

The mobile charging robot seeks to create a fully autonomous charging experience. With the click of a button, the robot would roll its way over to the vehicle, open the charging socket, connect, fully charge and then disconnect by itself. This robot would make every parking space an electric vehicle charging station.
