Vehicle Profile: 2019 Lexus RC

If you were to place all Lexus vehicles on a spectrum of performance, the RC would fall far ono the sportier side. And for 2019, it gets even sharper handling and more daring looks.

Thrilling engines

The 2019 Lexus RC is offered with one of four engines: a four-cylinder, two V6s and a V8. Power ranges between 241 and 467 horsepower, with between 258 lb-ft and 389 lb-ft of torque. In other words, this is a seriously fast machine.

Power is transmitted either to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic or to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic. What’s more, in Sport S or Sport S+ mode, the shifting speed adjusts itself based on detected g-force, so that as you think you approach the limits of the car’s performance, it simply extends those limits to give you more. For 2019, Lexus also saw fit to retune the car’s suspension with stiffer bushings and new dampers, further enhancing its already impressive handling.

Sharp styling

No matter how thrilling the engines are, most people won’t give a sports car a second look if it doesn’t also titillate the eyes. The 2019 Lexus RC doesn’t have that problem. It boasts a large and aggressively angular “spindle” grille, with ultra-sharp flanking LED headlights that leave no room for doubt as to what the car is capable of. New 2019 features include 19-inch wheels on the F Sport model, an L-shaped LED taillight strip, bumper air ducts and side window fins that improve aerodynamics. The RC has always looked menacing, but with the new revisions, its look is a tad more refined, helping it strike an attractive balance between sport and sophistication.

Interior and technology

Everything in the 2019 Lexus RC’s interior is top-rate. In true Lexus tradition, the fit and finish are impeccable, and the NuLuxe seating material is arguably more comfortable than leather and half as light. The technology is just as advanced as the quality is impressive, from the 17-speaker Mark Levinson® premium surround sound system to the high-resolution 10.3-inch split-screen multimedia navigation system. The dual-zone climate control system includes a smog sensor. Once you’ve configured the seat, mirror and steering wheel positions, the Lexus Memory System ensures you can get everything back to the way you like it at any time.

With the 2019 RC, Lexus continues to set the industry standard for sporty luxury. It’s pleasant to look at, laps the Nürburgring faster than you can list all of its features and comes with that quality craftsmanship you can only get from Lexus. It’s hard to think of anything else it might need.
