Lexus has struck the perfect balance between daily luxury and confident performance in its lineup, and no model evidences that more than the GS. This mid-size luxury sedan sports handsome looks and interior comfort that make it great for business commutes, while offering engine options that give it an athletic spirit for weekend sprints at the track.
Style inside and out
While certain exterior aspects of the Lexus GS exude the same strong body lines and gently sloping pillars you expect to find on modern luxury sedans, the front fascia sets its appearance apart. Its bold hourglass grille and sharp, angular triple-beam LED headlamps exude a determined, aggressive persona that aligns with its performance capabilities.
The GS’s cabin exudes a different type of confidence — one rooted in upscale comfort and refined luxury. Your GS will remember your seating position preferences through its memory system, welcoming you with soothing ambient lighting and leather-trimmed upholstery. The available Premium Package instills the interior with heating and ventilation components in your seat, rain-sensing wipers and a rear sunshade that you can control from the driver’s seat.
Ready to tear up the track
Lexus designed the GS to be fun to drive, and its engine options are proof of that. Even the standard in-line four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine generates 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, giving it the ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.0 seconds. The available 3.5-liter V6 engine boosts horsepower to 311 and torque to 280 lb-ft, shortening acceleration time to 5.7 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine on the GS F brings the sedan to its full potential, generating a whopping 467 horsepower, boasting a top track speed of 168 mph, hitting the 60 mph point in a mere 4.5 seconds.
True athletic performance isn’t only about the engine, though, so Lexus made sure every inch of the GS has been optimized to exploit the power generated under the hood. It utilizes a precise sport-tuned suspension, lightweight engine block and Sport Direct-Shift transmission, with the F version adding Torque Vectoring Differential, Brembo brakes and F-Adaptive Variable Suspension.
The fourth generation of the GS continues with the 2019 model, carrying over nearly unchanged from last year’s model. It bears the same great design and powertrains that made it a hit before, and it’s guaranteed to be a hit again this year.
