Vehicle Profile: 2021 Lexus LC
The LC is the epitome of luxury sports cars
The 2021 Lexus LC is a car that needs no introduction. As soon as it shows up, it speaks for itself. Its head-turning exterior style and cacophonous, naturally-aspirated V8 engine ensure that whether you’re the owner or just someone passing by, the LC leaves you with a tingly feeling.
If automakers were to put forth the car that best shows off their skill at designing good interiors, the LC would undoubtedly be Lexus’ submission. Leather and Alcantara® are everywhere, from the steering wheel and shift knob to the textured seat trim and inserts. The whole interior gives the impression of having been meticulously handstitched with just a single goal in mind: your comfort. The seats are supremely ergonomic, with foam-injected bolsters further enhancing support during spirited driving. Above, a massive panoramic glass roof makes the LC’s cabin seem bigger than it is, though you could always just get the new convertible model that was introduced for the 2021 model year. Alcantara®-trimmed door panels, bezel-less door handles and marbled carbon fiber detailing further enhance what is, altogether, a sublime interior. And because the LC is offered at only a single trim level, none of it is locked behind options.
The 2021 Lexus LC is one of the few new sports cars sold today that still offers a naturally-aspirated V8, and there’s a good reason for it. The 5.0-liter unit produces 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, screaming up to 7,300 RPM as it shoves you back in your seat and accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. All of the LC’s power is sent to the rear wheels via a clever 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission that ensures that the lively rear end doesn’t become overwhelming on fast downshifts. The LC is very agile thanks to extensive weight reduction efforts involving lots of aluminum and carbon fiber, though Lexus does offer a Performance Package to make it even faster. With the package, you get lightweight forged aluminum wheels, active rear steering, variable gear-ratio steering, a speed-activated rear wing and, just for good measure, carbon fiber door scuff plates. If you value performance above all else, you can even take out the panoramic roof and put in a carbon fiber roof instead, lowering the car’s weight and center of gravity for better handling.
New for 2021, the Lexus LC now gets standard Android Auto™ compatibility, enabling you to use your smartphone’s apps on the car’s state-of-the-art 10.3-inch, high-resolution, split-screen multimedia system. Apple CarPlay® and the Amazon Alexa assistant are also standard, and you also have access to many apps via the Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0. An LFA-inspired head-up display, in full color, also has all the driving information you need, readily visible for the times when you can’t easily view the 10.3-inch display. But no matter how you choose to see driving data or play your favorite songs, the latter will never sound better than on the LC’s 19-speaker Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound Audio System. You’ll have to keep your revs down, though.
The 2021 Lexus LC is the epitome of luxury sports cars. It effortlessly blends exceptional engine and handling performance with a high-quality interior packed with high-tech features. And, somehow, it does all that while keeping its overall weight exceptionally low.
