Vehicle Profile: 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
The Corvette ZR1 is America’s supercar

Of the more than two million cars that come out of Michigan every year, less than a handful can claim to be bona fide supercars. The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is one of these, and with a starting price of just $123,000, its performance-to-price proposition compares extremely favorably with its few rivals.

Function meets form

Despite its all-conquering performance, the ZR1 is still a classically-styled Corvette. The signature shape and design cues remain, but underlined by extensive weight-saving efforts involving generous use of carbon fiber parts, from the chevron-patterned halo hood to the engine cover. Its high performance makes the ZR1 the Corvette most closely related to the Corvette C7.R endurance racing car that competes in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and at Le Mans, so it’s only fitting that it be offered in the appropriate race-inspired colors, including official Corvette Racing Yellow and the vibrant Sebring Orange.

Up to 212 mph

Motivated by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that produces up to 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque, the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 can attain a stunning 212 mph top speed and accelerate from 0-60 mph in only 2.85 seconds. But its performance doesn’t stop at the engine. It offers two different rear wings and comes with a downforce-boosting front underwing that might as well be taken straight from the aforementioned Corvette racing car. Advanced cooling systems, high-performance Brembo® carbon ceramic brakes and Michelin® Pilot® Super Sport tires ensure you can extract the maximum out of the ZR1 lap after lap, while Magnetic Selective Ride Control™ can adjust the suspension within 15 milliseconds in response to the road for supreme balance and control.

Advanced command center

As brutal as the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 can be in a race, it’s almost surprisingly accommodating when used as a regular car. Heated and ventilated Nappa leather seating surfaces join a leather-wrapped, carbon-fiber trimmed steering wheel to enhance your comfort, while a Bose® premium audio system helps soothe your ears if you get tired of listening to the four-mode exhaust system (profiles include Track, Sport, Tour and Stealth). The Chevrolet Infotainment System comes with a snappy touch-screen display and built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi®, though you’re not likely to be looking at it all that much thanks to the configurable 8-inch instrument cluster and color head-up display. More likely, you’ll use it to capture video and data of your lap times via the Performance Data Recorder.

If you want an American sports car, you get a Corvette. And if you want even better than that, you get a Corvette ZR1. With its incredible supercharged V8 and top-notch handling, it’s no wonder it was named Road & Track’s 2019 Performance Car of the Year.
