Vehicle Preview: 2020 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape is fully redesigned for the 2020 model year, and with that redesign comes more than just styling changes and extra interior room. The new compact SUV is also the smartest and best-performing Escape Ford has ever built, combining powerful engines and sporty handling with excellent utility, advanced technologies and improved efficiency.
Advanced convenience and entertainment
Every 2019 Ford Escape trim comes with built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, and every trim but the base S come with an 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, giving you and your passengers easy access to smartphone-enabled entertainment. Even without a smartphone, the SYNC® 3 infotainment system redefines convenience, with intuitive voice recognition and a capacitive touch-screen display making it easy to bring up directions or play your favorite music through the 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen® premium sound system. SYNC® 3 also enables the clever cloud-based Amazon Alexa voice service, and if you’d rather not play with the infotainment screen too much while on the road, you’ll love the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and head-up display that show all critical driving information.
Small SUVs don’t typically come with a sliding second-row seat, but the 2020 Ford Escape isn’t your typical small SUV. Not only does this flexibility contribute to excellent rear-seat passenger legroom, knee clearance and footwell length — adding up to class-leading legroom — it also enables you to increase the cargo area to a cavernous 37.5 cubic feet. This expands even further to 65.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down, and no matter how much stuff you pack into your Escape, its turbocharged EcoBoost® engines and electrified powertrains are more than capable of getting the job done without compromising efficiency. With the 2.5-liter hybrid engine, Ford expects an EPA-estimated range of more than 550 miles per tank.
Safety for the whole family
Driving the 2020 Ford Escape is like having a whole other set of eyes — or several other sets of eyes. The SUV is available with Co-Pilot 360™, a set of driver-assist features designed to enhance your awareness and therefore your safety and that of your family. Evasive Steering Assist and Active Park Assist 2.0 are both first-in-class systems; the first can detect slower-moving or stationary vehicles in front of you and provide steering support to help you avoid them, while the second allows you to park — even in parallel — with only the touch of a button. No need to even touch the pedals, steering wheel or shifter. Other clever driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering, and a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert.
Before the redesign, the Ford Escape was already a strong vehicle choice. But now, it’s the ultimate family vehicle, full of convenient features, clever safety technologies and outstanding practicality that will make you wonder how the competition will ever catch up.
