Vehicle Profile: 2020 Buick Encore GX

The subcompact Buick Encore SUV first appeared on dealership lots at the end of 2012 and has received some impressive updates and upgrades since then, both inside and out. Alongside the debut of the standard Encore for the 2020 model year, Buick introduced the world to the first-ever Encore GX, tailored to the tech-obsessed driver.
The 2020 Buick Encore GX is available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive at three trims: Preferred, Select and Essence.
Buick made sure to include the latest in connectivity and infotainment within the Encore GX, including standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot, Bluetooth®, an 8-inch color touch screen, OnStar® and Buick® Connected Services, USB charging ports and Active Noise Cancellation. Moving up to the middle-of-the-road Select trim adds a remote start, allowing you to warm up the SUV on those chilly mornings from inside your home, and a SiriusXM® trial subscription for all of your music needs. The Encore GX Essence features even more amenities like a 120-volt power outlet, memory settings for the driver’s seat and a Universal Home Remote that can be linked to your garage, activate your home’s security system and turn the exterior lighting on or off. Rounding out the innovative tech is the available Alexa Built-In. This impressive system can be used via voice command to tackle tasks like getting directions, making calls, checking your to-do list, adding items to your Whole Foods grocery list and more.
The abundant technology on the 2020 Encore GX extends to its safety features, too. Standard on all models are helpful systems like Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. But that’s not all; the list of available safety features is extensive and includes convenient things like the Hands-Free Power Liftgate so you don’t have to fumble for keys when your hands are full. Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert add an extra set of eyes while the Head-Up Display ensures you stay focused on the road ahead while it shows you vital vehicle stats. And when it comes time to parallel park or back into a spot, the High Definition Surround Vision camera system and Rear Camera Mirror will provide a less obstructed view to make the task simple.
Improved performance can be expected on the Encore GX as well. The standard engine is a 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission. Combined, you can expect to get 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque (compared to the regular Encore’s 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque). For even more power, you can opt for the available 1.3-liter turbo engine that bumps up horsepower to 155 while providing 174 lb-ft of torque. The 1.2-liter engine is capable of achieving an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway while the 1.3-liter gets 31 mpg on the highway.*
If you’re looking for the versatility and peppiness of a small SUV with some of the most advanced tech on the market, consider the 2020 Buick Encore GX.
