$40,989 Raised for Kids Battling Cancer

More than $40,000 was donated to the Munson Medical Center in the name of a northern Michigan girl who passed away from cancer.

The Katie Heintz Basketball Tournament raised $40,989 for Munson's Cowell Family Cancer Center and organizers presented the hospital with a check on Friday, April 12th.

Katie Heintz was a high school student at Traverse City St. Francis when she passed away after a battle with leukemia in 2005 at the age of 16.

Every year her parents, Pat and Leslee Heintz, and people from around the community raise money with a basketball tournament. Team Elmer's offered a $20,000 matching donation this year!

All the proceeds from the tournament go to Munson as their teams work to provide much needed support and care for northern Michigan families battling childhood cancer.
