Vehicle Profile: 2020 Lexus GS
The Lexus GS is a thrilling ride with bold style

2020 Lexus GS
The 2020 Lexus GS is a premium sports sedan with handling to match its razor-sharp looks. For the new model year, the GS loses its least powerful model, offering even the most budget-conscious customers better performance while providing the modern amenities, leading luxury features, class-leading reliability and top-notch build quality that are the hallmarks of any Lexus vehicle.

Design and comfort

The 2020 Lexus GS is dramatically styled, boasting an aggressive front end dominated by a massive grille with sharp wedges. Distinctive LED headlights enhance the car’s intense expression, and its muscular lines are right at home with the low stand and sleek profile. You can get either 18- or 19-inch wheels as well as a surprisingly generous selection of scratch-resistant paint options. Inside, the GS is wrapped in the finest leather and wood you’ll find in a midsize premium car, with contrast stitching further enhancing the luxury feel. It’s easy to get comfortable thanks to the 10-way power-adjustable front seats, which are heated and ventilated even on the lowest trim level. Ambient interior lighting automatically adjusts itself based on whether the GS is moving or parked, and as the driver, you will love the aluminum pedals, easy-to-read race-inspired instrumentation, and ergonomic steering wheel trimmed in perforated leather.

Performance

The base 2020 Lexus GS 350 uses a proven 3.5-liter V6 engine with dual variable-valve timing and intelligence, which provides 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque while still offering strong fuel economy numbers. On rear-wheel-drive models, the GS 350 is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the all-wheel-drive model has two fewer gears. The end result is that you’ll get about two more miles per gallon on the GS 350 RWD, though the AWD model’s ability to dynamically adjust how much torque it distributes between the front and rear axles certainly has its merits, especially if you expect to drive on a wide range of road surfaces and in poor weather. Performance enthusiasts, however, will no doubt want to get behind the wheel of the 2020 Lexus GS F Sport, which comes with a 467-hp V8 engine, a Torsen® limited-slip differential, exclusive performance upgrades and even track-tuned suspension courtesy of the same team responsible for the LFA supercar.

Features and technology

Every 2020 Lexus GS comes with an impressive array of features and technologies, including a power moonroof, 12-speaker premium audio system with 5.1 surround sound, and Bluetooth® streaming. The technological heart of the GS is a 12.3-inch, high-resolution split-screen multimedia display, which provides voice-activated navigation with a full-screen map view as well as up-to-date traffic and weather information. Optional features include rain-sensing windshield wipers, a cold-weather package, a 17-speaker sound system by Mark Levinson®, a color head-up display and the F Sport Package, which adds some of the enhancements of the GS F Sport to the GS 350. You can even start the engine and climate control, check fuel levels, lock and unlock the doors, check the windows and more via Lexus Enform Remote, an app you can install on your smartphone or even your smartwatch.

Don’t feel surprised if you find yourself interested in the 2020 Lexus GS. There’s a lot there to love, and not a whole lot that its midsize premium car rivals do better. And when it comes to reliability and quality, there really isn’t anything better than a Lexus.
