Vehicle Profile: 2020 Lexus LC
The LC is a weekend car you can drive daily
The 2020 Lexus LC needs no introduction. The moment it pulls up — whether it’s at the gala or next to you on the highway — it simply speaks for itself. This is not in reference to its stunning exterior design, though it does send quite a powerful message, but rather to the beautiful cacophony of its growling, naturally-aspirated V8 engine, one of the rare few left. Offered at just a single trim level, there’s nothing the LC leaves out of its luxurious interior.
Design and craftsmanship
The interior of the 2020 Lexus LC is something to behold. The deep, curving creases of the Alcantara®-trimmed door panels paint a dramatic picture in the soft, ambient light that the cabin can generate. Hand-stitched features and hand-selected materials abound, such as the textured leather trim on the Alcantara® sports seats, which also come with Alcantara® inserts and foam-injected bolsters to enhance support during circuit driving and comfort at all times. The shift knob and heated steering wheel are wrapped in high-quality leather, but despite the ubiquity of said leather and Alcantara®, these two materials don’t even steal the spotlight. There’s also marbled carbon fiber detailing to take into consideration, or the massive panoramic glass roof and unique, bezel-less door handles — or even just the cabin’s overall “takumi” design. When it comes to craftsmanship, the Lexus LC is a gift that keeps on giving.
The 2020 Lexus LC makes full use of a naturally-aspirated, 5.0-liter V8 that’s good for 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Naturally-aspirated engines are something of a rare breed in 2020, yet they’ve lost none of their luster, as they offer sharper response than their turbocharged counterparts. The LC sends all of its considerable power to the rear wheels using a slick 10-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission, contributing to a 0-60 mph acceleration time of only 4.4 seconds. Extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum also helps reduce the LC’s weight while increasing its rigidity, leading to enhanced agility. For further performance, you can add the Performance Package that comes with lightweight forged aluminum wheels, a speed-activated rear wing and carbon fiber door scuff plates, as well as variable gear-ratio steering and active rear steering. You may even swap the panoramic glass roof for one made out of carbon fiber to lower the car’s center of gravity. Needless to say, you’ll need to head to a track to make proper use of all these features.
Every 2020 Lexus LC is equipped with a state-of-the-art 10.3-inch high-resolution, split-screen multimedia display that provides instant access to an advanced navigation system. It offers the convenience of the Amazon Alexa assistant and Apple CarPlay® smartphone integration, though Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0 has all of the apps you could need without plugging in a mobile device. If you tire of listening to the V8 engine, you can turn up the music on the 13-speaker Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound Audio System, and if you’d rather not turn your head to look at the 10.3-inch screen, you can simply get all of your most important information from the full-color, head-up display or the LFA supercar-inspired instrumentation.
The 2020 Lexus LC is a beautifully crafted car with an engine and chassis to match its stunning looks. Even though it looks and drives like a weekend car, its technologies and comfort make it a convenient daily driver as well.
