Vehicle Profile: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Interior
Forget the powertrain; how is the Mustang Mach-E’s interior?
Most of the attention given to the all-new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E has rightly been directed at its electric powertrain. But what about the interior? As an SUV, the Mach-E isn’t just an addition to the Mustang family, it’s also designed for your family as well.
Many car reviews speak of high-tech interiors and futuristic designs, but a glance at their actual cockpits will usually reveal this to be buzzword-filled hyperbole. The 2021 Mustang Mach-E, on the other hand, really does live up to those descriptions. On the center stack is a massive, portrait-style 15.5-inch screen with an all-new SYNC® interface and cloud-connected navigation. For extra ease of use, there’s still a large, physical dial at the bottom of the screen, which can be used to control whatever app is currently in focus. The screen is meant to be used for primarily non-driving functions, such as changing the sound, lighting and climate control.
The display is deeply customizable — you can even change how it responds to your touch — and the SYNC® system uses machine learning to fully adapt itself to your preferences, with up to three driver profiles and one guest profile supported. For additional information and control, you can rely on the steering wheel buttons, voice-activated assistants and 10.2-inch digital instrument panel. Other notable tech features include a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen® sound system, and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration.
The 2021 Mustang Mach-E’s interior is not only beautifully crafted but also ethically sourced. The SUV is animal free and uses ActiveX™ seating material, a type of synthetic leather available with unique, suede-like Miko® perforated reflective inserts. Red, blue or copper metallic stitching is offered, as well as a full-size panoramic glass roof that enhances the sense of space — but there’s lots of real space to go around anyway. There’s plenty of headroom for tall adults in the back seat, and decent legroom too. The trunk will swallow 29 cubic feet of stuff, which grows to an impressive 59.6 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded flat. And because there’s no engine under the hood, there’s also a modest front trunk for extra bric-a-bracs.
Comfortable and convenient
The 2021 Mustang Mach-E is offered with a long list of standard and optional interior features that enhance comfort and convenience. For example, every model is equipped with a wireless phone charging pad, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, and the Ford Co-Pilot360™ 2.0 suite of driver-assistive technologies. Most models also get memory functions for the seats and power-folding mirrors, a 360-degree camera, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and Ford’s latest Active Park Assist feature. Upper trims get heated first row seats, a heated steering wheel, the aforementioned panoramic glass roof and a premium 10-speaker B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen™. Ford says a semi-autonomous cruise control system will be added to the SUV via software update after launch, which will be nice to have if only to give you more opportunity to relax and enjoy the Mach-E interior.
The Mustang Mach-E’s 459-horsepower electric powertrain is probably the reason you’re interested in the SUV, but its spacious, well-crafted interior and futuristic technologies give it real staying power.
