Vehicle Profile: 2020 Jeep® Renegade
The 2020 Jeep® Renegade is a compact SUV built for the urban jungle just as much as the real one. With top-class capability, nimble handling, a fuel-sipping engine and substantial amounts of connectivity technologies, the Renegade makes you feel at home wherever you are.
Classic yet modern design
The 2020 Renegade is an eye catcher. With its round headlights, seven-slot vertical grille and short overhangs, it instantly evokes that timeless, rugged Jeep® look. It has a lot of cool modern details too, like sculpted LED headlights and taillights, which illuminate your path as sharply as they look distinctive when you show up for that downtown party. At the same time, the Renegade is keen to remind you of its roots, with the taillights in particular boasting X-shaped stampings reminiscent of the classic army Jeep® vehicles. Inside, it’s a lot more modernity than heritage, with perforated leather trim, accent stitching and advanced digital interfaces welcoming you in. The front seats, side mirrors and steering wheel are all heated, ensuring you never go cold no matter where your adventures take you.
You can choose between two engines when shopping for a Renegade. The base unit is a 1.3-liter MultiAir® turbocharged four-cylinder. Introduced in 2019, this small but powerful engine produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque, giving you plenty of low-end grunt for crawling over rocks or overtaking other cars. Also on offer is a 2.4-liter Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 engine rated at 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. It’s naturally aspirated and thus slightly more responsive, making it a good fit for off-road escapades. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which offers a nice blend of economy and performance.
On 4x4 models, the Renegade also comes with a disconnecting rear axle and the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, which has up to five settings — Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud and Rock. Thanks to these and a few other off-road features, such as Hill Descent Control and the Jeep® Active Drive Low system with a 21:1 crawl ratio, you’ll be hard pressed to find any place the Renegade can’t go.
Connected and informed
If you don’t associate off-road capability with high-tech connectivity features, the 2020 Renegade may surprise you. The compact SUV offers the Uconnect® 4C NAV system that includes an 8.4-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, Bluetooth® connectivity and voice-activated controls. The Renegade is also available with a built-in 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. Eight separate devices can connect to it at once from up to 50 feet away from the vehicle. In other words, you can as easily keep the whole family entertained while on a road trip as you can stay connected to the things that matter once you’ve found that perfect camping spot in the wilderness.
Wherever you live and wherever you like to drive, the 2020 Jeep® Renegade has something to offer. It’s got a high-tech interior, stylish design, rugged performance and versatility. What’s not to love?
